July 4th is certainly one of those great days of the year! It's filled with the excitement of family, friends, grilling, warm scenery, and of course highly anticipated fireworks displays that every youngster (and let's admit it, adults alike) in America, find themselves marveling at as the day rolls to an end. With so much excitement surrounding the day it sometimes hard to believe that more times than not many of us find ourselves saying "what do you want to do this year?" Here is a list we put together of optional things that you and your loved ones can do to highlight this monumental day in our country's history. 1) Remember, Honor and Respect those who have served! The Fourth of July is often marked by poolside cookouts, beach days with family and friends, or an all-American baseball game. These are all great choices but, the reality is that all of these things wouldn't be possible without the brave folks who are serving, and have served to earn and protect that freedom. As you light the grill, or embark on that great adventure with your family and friends, take a moment to remember this, or you can simply make it the exhibit. During the holiday many museums, cities and capitals offer unique exhibits and/or information regarding the armed services. An option that we had the privilege of experiencing a few years back was visiting Arlington National Cemetery. It was a great way to realign our thinking as we started that particular July Fourth and it can also be a good educational tool for your outing. 2) Get out and Explore What better way to be reminded of the great freedom we have than getting out and enjoying the natural beauty of this great country! Go hiking, kayaking, biking, walking, swimming, whatever suites your fancy! It's a perfect day to enjoy the outdoors! 3) Eat! Eat! Eat! Most holidays involve eating, and the fourth is NO exception! In fact, I would argue that Independence Day is the undisputed leader for grilling day of the year! Everyone loves a good meal and even more so the way it brings people together so get out there, break some bread, get to know some new neighbors, or just love on the friends and family surrounding you! 4) Travel! The Fourth is a great time to travel and explore if you're willing to brace the crowds. Many cities have festivals and events that make it a great opportunity for the family! 5) Relax! Whatever you may be doing this Independence Day, be sure to take some time for you and your family to relax and just enjoy time together. 6) Fireworks It just wouldn't be the same if Fireworks weren't involved in some way! Whether your in your backyard (responsibly) shooting of fireworks, or watching them over an ocean or mountain, or whether you and friends are watching them in a city somewhere, take time to enjoy the magnificence and celebration they represent! Our favorite July 4th fireworks display to date was appropriately from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. 7) Enjoy your Freedom! While you're enjoying friends, family and the country, take time to humbly appreciate the God provided freedom that so long ago our forefathers helped establish. Be proud of your home land. Put aside differences, political debates, opinions and hatred and show respect and love to those around you and those you may encounter on this day! Happy Fourth of July! Enjoy this beautiful land of the free and home of the brave!

Great ideas. We also might think about reading the DOI, just so that everyone's caught up on it and unnecessary twitterstorms like what happened recently don't happen again. :D
